Wear comfortable, sturdy walking shoes!
The quarter-mile walking tour is on a decomposed granite
trail which is sloped in places. People have brought strollers
but most prefer to backpack infants.
If you have visitors in your party who
need special assistance, who have difficulty walking for
example, please inform the Cat Haven when you schedule your
visit. We will do what we can to help. You can also consider
booking one of our in-door educational programs. These are
an enjoyable alternative which have been very well received
by groups ranging from seniors to homeschoolers.
A word about the weather:a little preparation
helps to make your tour thoroughly enjoyable. In summer,
wear a hat and sunscreen. Although the path is partially
shaded, drink plenty of water before you set out. You may
want to carry a bottle of water with you.
During the winter season, be prepared for
changeable weather and wear layers. The Cat Haven is
situated above San Joaquins standard winter fog, and
has quantities of fine days, but always be alert for unexpected
road conditions.
There is no place to keep a pet while visiting
the Cat Haven. We recomend that you not bring your pet cat,
dog or elephant to the Cat Haven.
