FAQ's

Do you take your cats out to public events?

Yes we do. The government passed a law some years ago prohibiting facilities from taking out the big cats when they become unsafe. The definition of unsafe is somewhat unclear. So we use small cats like servals and bobcats and some big cats until they become unsafe to take out. We do take our cheetah out to public events, but there are many restrictions. We do not allow people to touch the animals.

Are you open all year?

Yes we are open all year. We are closed on Tues all year around and Wed for a little more then half the year. We are closed the days of Christmas, New Years, Easter and Thanksgiving. Check the Visitors page for exact times and days...

Why keep cats in captivity?

We take very good care of furry friends. Cats born and raised in captivity can not be returned to the wild because they lack the training and skills needed to survive. This facility becomes these cats home and they in turn become ambassadors for their wild cousins. For many people this is only was to see an exotic cat live. The animals have a far bigger impact on someone seeing it live then what would be seen on TV or in a photo. Our cats love their home here at the Cat Haven and like all their friends that visit them everyday.

Do you rescue cats from people that should not have them?

No, the Cat Haven is not a rescue facility. All of the cats we have come from other zoos or private facilities from all over the world. The goal of the Cat Haven in to save cats in the wild. This is done by by inspiring people that come to the Cat Haven to take an active roll in conservation. We want to have a wide diversity of cat species to show people so they can get excited about cats. If we did rescue, we would end up with a bunch of lions and tigers and this does not serve our goals. There are many good rescue facilities but it is not the work we chose to do.
